Giraffe Research Participation
Giraffe Helping Giraffe
Meet the B Bryan Preserve Giraffe Bulls!
All 4 giraffe are trained for voluntary blood draws, shoulder injections, and hoof trims. This has made them valuable participants for a variety of studies looking to improve giraffe welfare in human care and aid research for wild giraffe conservation. The trainers at BBP work consistently with the giraffe to keep a strong positive connection, and training is a favorite part of the giraffe’s day! Below are research studies the BBP giraffe have participated in:
Study: Eprinomectin in Giraffe
This study is looking at the efficacy and dosage of eprinomectin (antiparasitic medication) for giraffe, with the hope of using it to treat giraffe in the wild. The medication was poured along the giraffe’s backs at BBP, and then blood was drawn voluntarily at specified times for evaluation.
The giraffe have participated in many more studies that have not been published yet! Links will be posted when available.
